The “12 Days of Milkshake Stout” progressive tap takeover is in partnership with the Rochester Mills Brewing Co., maker of the craft beers, including the original formula known for its smooth texture and surprisingly light body. Volunteer campaign packs 9,000 pounds of food, raises $1,000 in donations to Food Bank of Eastern Michigan

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – November 18, 2016 – Through its more than 30-year-old Company Giving Program, employees of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant reached out this year to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to assist the agency in its mission to provide nourishment to the hungry in its 22-county service area.

Bavarian Inn employees gathered to the food bank’s Flint, Michigan, headquarters on Nov. 15 to pack 9,000 pounds of food products for distribution to the region’s needy. In addition, employees raised approximately $1,000 in cash donations to the food bank at the restaurant’s recent Holiday Open House.

According to Bavarian Inn Marketing Manager Mandy Borsenik, past charities aided by the Company Giving Program include the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, Hospice for Hope, Special Olympics, Special Days Camp and Saginaw Habitat for Humanity.

“The Bavarian Inn,” Borsenik added, “has many caring team members who give so generously each year to help those in need. We’re looking forward to an exciting year of giving in 2017.”

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – Nov. 1, 2016 – Helping hungry families is the focus of the annual Holiday Open House at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant Castle Shops, Frankenmuth Cheese Haus, Covered Bridge & Leather Gift Shop and select stores at Frankenmuth River Place Shops on Friday, November 11.

Shoppers giving a cash donation to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan will receive a 20 percent discount at participating locations.

“Our business philosophy for many years has been to support the worthy organizations in our community that are serving those people in need,” said Amy Zehnder Grossi, General Manager. “This year we want to assist the Food Bank to feed the hungry while providing our guests with a festive way to start the Holiday season.”

Donating to the Food Bank is not the only way shoppers can get the 20 percent discount. Food donations, which will go to a local food pantry, also earn the discount.

Bavarian Inn Annual ‘Squash Roundup’ Brings Community Together Sept. 24

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – Sept. 21, 2016 – A tradition for 51 years, the annual “Squash Roundup” for the Bavarian Inn Restaurant happens Saturday, Sept. 24.

With the help of volunteers, farm hands and community members, tons of Blue Hubbard squash will be harvested from the fields and delivered to the Bavarian Inn Restaurant.

The Blue Hubbard squash grown by the Fred Weiss Family Farm in Frankenmuth weigh anywhere from 25 to 35 pounds each. Members of the St. Lorenz Lutheran Church Youth Group help unload the truckloads of squash at the restaurant. Last year, the Bavarian Inn processed 70 tons of squash.

A favorite of Bavarian Inn Restaurant guests for a half-century, Blue Hubbard squash is a popular seasonal feature on the menu from October through December. Bavarian Inn co-founder Dorothy Zehnder works her culinary magic with the squash, using it as a side dish, as well as in soups and the Inn’s pumpkin pie.

Frankenmuth hosts Sept. 25 grueling ‘run-bike-run’ events

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – Sept. 7, 2016 – Many of the nation’s and world’s best runners and cyclists are coming to Frankenmuth Sunday, Sept. 25 to compete for $5,000 in cash prizes and a shot at national and world championships in the Powerman North America Duathlon Series, sponsored by the Bavarian Inn Restaurant and the Bavarian Inn Lodge.

The event marks the final regional duathlon contest on the Powerman North America race calendar. Regional winners will qualify for the Powerman North America National Championships Dec. 11 at Silver Springs, Florida. National winners are invited to compete for the best-in-world title at the World Duathlon Championships, held each September in Zolfingen, Switzerland.

The Bavarian Inn Restaurant and the area around the nearby Bavarian Inn Lodge will be the most popular gathering spot for athletes, their families, supporters, and spectators as the race courses wind around the city, traversing nearby country lanes, through the Frankenmuth business district, and crossing the historic Wooden Covered Bridge (“Holz Brűcke”).

Two classes of races will be going off on race day: the classic Powerman, which encompasses a 10K run, followed by a 60K cycling race, and another 10K run. The second event, the Powerman Sprint, involves a 5K run, followed by a 30K bike race, and another 5K run.

“Last year, we had an incredible weekend in Frankenmuth with athletes from 21 states as well as five countries participating, and many of the athletes had high praise for the courses and venue. It’s a great city, with something for the entire family to do,” said Kenny Krell, Powerman North America’s National Event Director, outlining why Frankenmuth was chosen once again for the races. Krell noted previous partnerships with the Bavarian Inn on the endurance event scene also makes Frankenmuth a host city favorite.

Legendary ‘Man in Black’ to take stage for restaurant’s dinner show performance Sept. 21

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – August 29, 2016 – Johnny Cash, that country music legend with the haunting, storytelling voice known around the world, will be honored at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant when it presents “The Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute Show” on Wednesday, Sept. 21 as part of the restaurant’s 2016 series of matinee dinner shows. Two performances are scheduled – 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Terry Lee Goffee, a longtime country music artist who regularly performs year-round across the country, totally immerses himself in the Johnny Cash character, in appearance and musical style, from the moment he walks onstage, all the way to the final song. His 30-plus tribute repertoire includes hits such as “I Walk the Line” and “Ring of Fire.”

Bavarian Inn Tunes Up for 30th Annual Labor Day Covered Bridge Walk

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – August 23, 2016 – Not able to join the Labor Day five-mile trek across the Mackinac Bridge? No problem. You can always opt for the Annual Frankenmuth Labor Day Wooden Covered Bridge (Holz Brücke) Walk at noon, Monday, September 5.

For the 30th consecutive year, hundreds of area residents and visitors, led by members of the Bavarian Inn Zehnder family and the Gemuetlichkeit Club, a local American-German cultural group will start on the east side of the span, near the Bavarian Inn Lodge. They’ll cross over the 239-foot-long Bavarian Inn’s Covered Bridge, which was originally installed in 1980 and restored just last year. Walkers will arrive approximately five minutes later at the Fischer Platz outdoor café, located at the southwest corner of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant.

Once there, all in attendance will be able to enjoy musical entertainment along with their favorite food and beverages that will be available for purchase.

What began 30 years ago as a friendly neighborhood gathering has become a well-established local event. As the story goes, the late Al Schneider and his wife, Louise, were at home chatting, and the topic of Labor Day and the annual Mackinac Bridge walk came up. Avid community supporters, Al and Louise decided that since Frankenmuth had its own iconic bridge, they should start their own bridge walking tradition. Starting with just 10-15 walkers, they did just that, ending the festivities in the Bavarian Inn’s Fischer Platz. They continued the tradition each year thereafter, strolling across the Cass River and adding participants.
